How to filter by your own metadata

Learn how to use our new filter bar.

On our dashboard you are now able to filter your results by any metadata attached to your text. Under metadata we understand any additional column that your .csv file has besides your text and date columns. On the dashboard you will see a new filter bar giving you the option to filter the results by your additional columns.

We will explain everything here at the example of airline reviews. Here, you could filter by a specific airlines, the traveller-type, a ranking given to the food and beverage service and an overall ranking given to the airline.

There are two types of filters:

  • multi-select filters allow you to chose multiple options from a list of items.

  • range-filters: For numerical metadata you can enter a specific range. This is possible for data columns that contain numbers representing an order. Examples would be any type of star-ratings, the age or an income. Numbers like telephone numbers or user-ids would be examples for which a range-filter does not apply as these types do not have an intrinsic order to them.

In our example, the airline filter is a multi-select filter. Just click on multiple items to select them:

The "overall" rating column represents a range-filter and you can enter two values specifying a from-to range. Note that if you put the same value into both, from and to, fields, you would be selecting that specific value.

(E.g., if we would be specifying "from: 8, to: 8", we would get all reviews that have a rating equal to 8)

Once you have made the selection, the selected items appear as grey badges. This indicates that the filtering has not yet happened. To apply the filters, you must click on Apply first.

The badges then change to a blue color, and all results will respect your chosen filters.

I hope this new feature will be helpful for you.
